In the male-dominated industry of labels and operational solutions for businesses, Kathy Lawson is one-of-a-kind. As co-founder of SK&T, Kathy’s passion for the work and her customers ensures that people are always treated to an exceptional service experience every time.
Kathy’s devotion to her customers is unparalleled. Each day she works hard to solve their problems while serving their needs in a personalized way. And it’s because of this dedication and care that SK&T’s customer base has been loyal to this woman-owned company for decades. Her top priority is for customers to feel supported the moment their order is received. That support stays constant through implementation and as their business grows and scales.
Because everything starts with a label, Kathy and her team use labels as the springboard for developing the most comprehensive operational solutions for customers. For Kathy, the goal is to find the best solutions for each individual organization. You’ll never find pushy salespeople at SK&T – only results-oriented and driven people who want to see your business succeed.
Kathy’s tenacity and grit can be attributed to her upbringing, as both her parents always worked (her father was a concrete foreman and her mother worked for the state of Mississippi). She learned early on the value of hard work and didn’t shy away from it. Growing up, Kathy waitressed at a family restaurant. After high school, she found work as a runway model and eventually landed in accounting. The corporate grind was stifling and Kathy found herself wanting more freedom – the kind that comes with being your own boss. Her blossoming love of labels and perhaps her newfound nickname as the Wonder Woman of Labels sparked an idea: to launch her own company.
With only $300 in her checking account and an abundance of true grit, Kathy founded SK&T with her husband in 1997. She knew the hard work and tenacity needed, having been a single mom for 5 years, and applied those bootstrapping skills to grow her new company from the ground up. SK&T remains small but emphasizes big ideas: the importance of communication, gratitude, service, and the grit that only Kathy can inspire among the employees.
When she’s not at work, this Southern Bell can be found enjoying the great outdoors in her adopted state of Colorado. She loves camping and boating as well as spending time with her husband, son and granddaughter, and of course, her best friend and company dog, Kodi.
